John has been in ELT for around 25 years, as a teacher, teacher trainer and educational consultant. He has worked in the UK, Italy, Russia and Brazil, and led seminars on language and culture in many other parts of the world. His experience of education ranges from private language schools to British Council courses to university language departments. John worked as Professor of Applied Language Studies in the Department of English Language at Glasgow University and is currently a CAPES International Fellow and Visiting Professor at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), where he is an active member of the Academic Literacies Lab in FFLCH. He is the author of a number of books, chapters and articles on aspects of English language and education, including “An intercultural approach to English language teaching” (Multilingual Matters 2003) and “Intercultural language activities” (Cambridge University Press).
